White Hokkaido tour
Lake Toya
Begin your adventure at Lake Toya, Japan’s third-largest volcanic caldera lake. This stunning ice-free lake never freezes, even during the harshest winter months. Take the ropeway up to Mt. Usuzan for breathtaking views of the active volcano and the picturesque lake below, along with panoramic vistas of Mt. Showa Shinzan. (Note: Views are subject to weather conditions.)
Next, visit the Bear Ranch, home to Japan's largest animals, the brown bears, which are native to Hokkaido. Experience the dramatic landscape of Jigokudani (Hell Valley), where columns of hot water and steam burst from small crevices, creating a surreal environment. Cap off your day at Noboribetsu Onsen, known for its therapeutic hot springs.
Hakodate
Travel to Hakodate, Hokkaido's third-largest city located at the island's southern tip. As one of the first Japanese ports opened to foreign trade in 1859, Hakodate showcases a rich cultural heritage. Stroll along Old Port Store Street, also known as the Red Brick Warehouse, and visit the Motomachi Roman Catholic Church and the white Russian Orthodox Church.
For a stunning view of the city, take the ropeway to Mt. Hakodate. The night view from the summit is considered one of the most magnificent in the world. (Again, check weather conditions.) After a day of exploration, unwind in an onsen at the Yunokawa Hot Spring Resort, one of Hokkaido's oldest hot spring areas.
Otaru
Next, head to Otaru, a charming harbor city located northwest of Sapporo. Walk along the Otaru Canal, flanked by century-old stone warehouses that evoke a sense of nostalgia. Explore Otaru Handicraft Street, famous for its glass crafts, music box museum, and delightful dessert shops—perfect for a leisurely stroll and souvenir shopping.
In Sapporo, visit notable landmarks such as the Hokkaido Former Government Building and the Clock House. Stop by Odori Park, the venue for the Sapporo Snow Festival and various seasonal events, where you can also view the Sapporo TV Tower. Don't miss the chance to shop at the Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, which features over 150 shops offering everything from souvenirs to snacks.
